The latest edition of the School of Grey Systems was combined with an open lecture by Prof. Naiming Xie from the Institute of Grey System Studies at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, organised jointly with staff from the Institute of Materials Technology (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Poznań University of Technology). The concept and thematic scope of the school are determined by a team of staff associated with the GreyLab Laboratory of Quantitative Methods and Grey Systems (Institute of Safety and Quality Engineering, Faculty of Management Engineering, Poznań University of Technology).

The School of Grey Systems is organised in collaboration with the Polish Scientific Association for Grey Systems (PSNSS), which has been working with the International Association for Grey Systems and Uncertainty Analysis since 2015 on the development of the theory and application of grey systems methods. During the latest edition of the Grey Systems School, the following topics were presented, amongst others: (1) the essence of grey decision models, (2) the sequence of steps in the Grey Incidence Analysis (GIA) method, and (3) an assessment of the application of selected GIA models in management and quality sciences. During each edition of the Grey Systems School, time is set aside for discussion and consultation regarding the potential application of grey decision models in solving selected problems presented by the school’s participants.

More information

Designing workstations in accordance with ergonomic principles (starting 2027/28)

The summer school on ergonomics would be a short-term educational programme that combines theory with practice in adapting work and the environment to human capabilities. Participants will learn the basic principles of ergonomics, how to analyse workstations, and how to design solutions that improve comfort, safety and productivity. We will use computer software enabling computer simulations of workstations. The programme will include workshops and group work, as well as meetings with experts.

Organizers: Poznan University of Technology, Faculty of Engineeing Management

Project Management (starting 2027)

The aim will be to combine theoretical knowledge with practical project work. Over the course of a few days, participants have the opportunity to go through the key stages of the project life cycle, from defining the objective and scope, through planning activities, identifying risks and stakeholders, to monitoring progress and evaluating results. This format encourages workshop-based work, decision-making under time constraints, and the development of team competencies essential in a modern organisational environment. A key element of the workshop will be working on real or realistic case studies, through which participants learn to apply project management tools and methods in practice. The sessions may cover both the classical approach, involving scheduling, budgeting and monitoring implementation, and the agile approach, focused on flexibility, iteration and rapid response to change. This will give participants a broader perspective and a better understanding of the circumstances in which specific methods are best applied, and how to select tools suited to the nature of the project.
