Summer Schools

The School of Grey Systems

The School of Grey Systems is aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates and academic staff interested in applying grey systems methods to their current research work and projects. The first School of Grey Systems took place on 20 June 2018, with subsequent sessions held on 12 December 2018, 4 December 2019, March 2020 (online seminar), 16 January 2023, 10 June 2025 and 22 May 2025. The latest edition of the School of Grey Systems was combined with an open lecture by Prof. Naiming Xie from the Institute of Grey System Studies at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, organised jointly with staff from the Institute of Materials Technology (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Poznań University of Technology). The concept and thematic scope of the school are determined by a team of staff associated with the GreyLab Laboratory of Quantitative Methods and Grey Systems (Institute of Safety and Quality Engineering, Faculty of Management Engineering, Poznań University of Technology).

The School of Grey Systems is organised in collaboration with the Polish Scientific Association for Grey Systems (PSNSS), which has been working with the International Association for Grey Systems and Uncertainty Analysis since 2015 on the development of the theory and application of grey systems methods. During each edition of the Grey Systems School, time is set aside for discussion and consultation regarding the potential application of grey decision models in solving selected problems presented by the school’s participants.

The event is organised by the Faculty of Management Engineering at Poznań University of Technology.

The CECRS' Summer School

From 23 to 27 June 2025, the Faculty of Engineering  Management at Poznań University of Technology hosted a Summer School focusing on crisis management and building the resilience of local communities. The event was organised as part of the CECRS project, funded by NATO’s Science for Peace and Security (SPS) programme, which gives it an international and strategic dimension.

The aim of the Summer School was to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively to crisis situations and to develop strategies to enhance social resilience. The topics covered the entire crisis management cycle – from threat assessment to building long-term resilience in local communities. The event was attended by representatives of the uniformed services, public administration, universities and experts from Poland and Ukraine. Speakers included, amongst others, officers from the Police and the State Fire Service, representatives of the county council, and academics from Poznań University of Technology and Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

The Summer School of Project Management

Planning: 2027

Supervisor: dr inż. Marta Pawłowska-Nowak

The aim will be to combine theoretical knowledge with practical project work. Over the course of one week, participants have the opportunity to go through the key stages of the project life cycle, from defining the objective and scope, through planning activities, identifying risks and stakeholders, to monitoring progress and evaluating results. This format encourages workshop-based work, decision-making under time constraints, and the development of team competencies essential in a modern organisational environment. A key element of the workshop will be working on real or realistic case studies, through which participants learn to apply project management tools and methods in practice. The sessions may cover both the classical approach, involving scheduling, budgeting and monitoring implementation, and the agile approach, focused on flexibility, iteration and rapid response to change. This will give participants a broader perspective and a better understanding of the circumstances in which specific methods are best applied, and how to select tools suited to the nature of the project.

The Summer School of Ergonomics - Designing workstations in accordance with ergonomic principles

Planning: 2027/28

Supervisor: dr hab. inż. Beata Mrugalska, prof. PP

The Summer School on Ergonomics would be a short-term educational programme that combines theory with practice in adapting work and the environment to human capabilities. Participants will learn the basic principles of ergonomics, how to analyse workstations, and how to design solutions that improve comfort, safety and productivity. We will use computer software enabling computer simulations of workstations. The programme will include workshops and group work, as well as meetings with experts.
